So I have a trick to sticking with my goals that I’d like to share with you — use the guilt monster to your advantage. Start by telling EVERYONE (family, friends, co-workers, Facebook, taxi drivers…hey YOU, I’m training to run a marathon!) about your goal. This way when I feel like backing out of running one day (for crazy excuses like, my cat’s lonely) then all I have to do is sit back and wait for the guilt monster to claw it’s way into my brain.
If I hadn’t told everyone on earth what I’m working towards (a marathon, just in case you didn’t hear me the first dozen times!) then I wouldn’t have such all-consuming guilt when I skip a workout. So I actually use the guilt to my advantage and embrace it as a way to motivate myself.
